77GHz Automotive Radar Sensors*

Stop and Go operation, Crash impact prediction, parking assistance

Recent research into traffic flow has shown that a traffic jam with related accidents is mainly caused by uncontrolled braking and accelerating of the individual vehicles. Radar sensors which measure the distance to the vehicle in front, and record the relative speed, provide the data base for a regulating system which adjusts driving behavior automatically to the needs of the traffic flow.
Sensors for front obstacle collision avoidance, stop & go and impact prediction place a safety belt around the vehicle to avoid accidents.

77 GHz radar sensors are available in state of the art technology:

Compact planar design with microstrip patch antennas and active components mounted on antenna surface to fulfil high volume, low cost, fully automated production.

Main specification data are:

Transmitter operates at 76 to 77 GHz with FMCW modulation

Stop and Go operation covers a distance from 1 to 50 m and has in azimuth three 10° electronically switchable antenna beams at -10°,0°,+10°.

Enhanced angle resolution of 1° by computation of the several antenna beams between -10° to +10°.

Parking assistance covers a distance from 0 to 5 m and has in azimuth five 30° electronically switchable antenna beams at -60°,-30°,0°,+30°,+60°

Collision warning radar frontend

3 antenna beams / -10° 0° +10°

Size with radom: 98 x 92 x 9 mm
